Thrills on the Lake
Thorpe Park is Surrey’s premier destination for thrill-seekers, built around a series of lakes and islands near Chertsey. Operated by Merlin Entertainments, the park is home to some of the UK’s most intense roller coasters including Stealth, which launches riders from 0 to 80 mph in under two seconds, and The Swarm, the country’s first winged coaster. Nemesis Inferno, SAW – The Ride and Colossus provide further white-knuckle experiences.
While Thorpe Park is best known for its big coasters, there is plenty for families too. Angry Birds Land caters to younger visitors, and water rides like Tidal Wave and Storm Surge offer refreshing fun on hot days. The park also stages Fright Nights each October, one of the UK’s largest Halloween scare events, featuring live actors and maze experiences.
Getting There & Tickets
Thorpe Park sits just off Junction 11 of the M25, making it easily accessible from across the South East. Staines railway station is the nearest mainline stop, with a shuttle bus running on peak days. Pre-booking online is strongly recommended as it offers substantial savings over the gate price. Season passes and Merlin Annual Passes are available for regular visitors. The park generally opens from late March to early November, with Fright Nights extending the season into late October.
