Golf and Much More
Foxhills occupies 400 acres of the former estate of Charles James Fox on the outskirts of Ottershaw. Where the other clubs on this list deal in tradition and exclusivity, Foxhills offers something different: two proper championship courses alongside a full-service resort with spa, swimming pools, tennis and padel courts, and hotel accommodation. It works for serious golfers and for families who want a country club that serves everyone.
Fred Hawtree designed both the Bernard Hunt Course (named after the Ryder Cup player, 6,883 yards) and the Longcross Course (6,743 yards) when the club opened in 1975. A 9-hole Manor Course handles beginners and short-game practice. The Bernard Hunt is the stronger of the two – longer, more demanding off the tee, with water coming into play on several holes.
International Series and Tournament Golf
Foxhills entered the professional spotlight when the Asian Tour's International Series England came to the Longcross Course in 2024. Peter Uihlein won the inaugural Foxhills edition at 20 under par, including a course-record 61 in the second round. The tournament, part of the LIV Golf-affiliated International Series, has raised the club's profile well beyond Surrey.
Membership and Facilities
Unlike the private clubs that dominate the Surrey heathland belt, Foxhills welcomes non-members who book through the hotel. Membership gives access to over 200 weekly activities – everything from aqua aerobics to wine tasting – plus priority tee times on both courses. Golf World ranked Foxhills the third-best resort in England in 2025.
The position, 20 minutes from Heathrow and close to the M25 and M3, makes it practical for corporate events and weekday rounds. It lacks the pedigree of Wentworth or Sunningdale, but it offers a quality of daily experience that few members' clubs in the area can match.
