Seven Centuries of Hospitality

The Crown Inn traces its origins to 1285 when Cistercian monks founded a rest house for pilgrims travelling between Salisbury and Canterbury. Original deeds from 1383 hang above the fireplace. King Edward VI camped on the green outside with 4,000 men in 1552, and Queen Elizabeth I is believed to have stayed here in 1591. The oak-panelled walls, stuccoed ceilings, and ancient beams create a dining setting unlike any other in the county.

The Crown Today

The kitchen takes a seasonal approach with market-fresh fish and daily specials. An extensive wine list and well-kept ales complement the food. Individually designed rooms blend historic character with contemporary comfort, earning an AA 5 Star rating. The inn dominates Chiddingfold’s village green, widely considered one of Surrey’s most beautiful.
