East Surrey’s Premier Stage
The Harlequin Theatre & Cinema has been serving Redhill and the wider east Surrey area since 1987. Its 500–seat main auditorium plays host to a varied programme of touring theatre, dance, stand–up comedy and children’s shows, while a separate 250–seat cinema screens the latest mainstream and arthouse releases.
Managed by Reigate & Banstead Borough Council, The Harlequin fills an important gap in the cultural map – it is the largest dedicated performance venue between Guildford and the southern fringe of London, giving residents of Redhill, Reigate, Caterham and the surrounding villages access to professional touring productions on their doorstep.
Pantomime, Film & Community
The annual professional pantomime is the highlight of The Harlequin’s calendar, regularly selling out its entire run. Beyond panto, the venue supports local amateur dramatic and operatic societies, whose productions fill the auditorium several times a year and maintain a strong tradition of participatory performance in east Surrey.
The cinema programme balances blockbusters with special screenings – parent–and–baby sessions, autism–friendly showings and classic film revivals all feature regularly. Combined with a licensed bar, meeting rooms and exhibition space, The Harlequin functions as a true cultural centre for the community.
