Riding in the Heart of the Weald
Cranleigh Riding Centre is a family-run yard on the southern fringe of the Surrey Hills, surrounded by the quiet farmland and wooded lanes of the Weald. The centre provides a friendly, unhurried atmosphere that appeals to families, beginners and returning riders who want to build or rebuild their skills without pressure.
Lessons are available for adults and children, covering flatwork, pole work and introductory jumping. The school keeps a range of horses and ponies of different sizes and temperaments, and instructors match each rider to a suitable mount. Holiday camps and own-a-pony days are popular with younger riders during the school breaks.
Hacking & the Local Area
One of the centre’s chief attractions is its access to hacking. Bridleways head out across the gently undulating Wealden clay towards Alfold and Ewhurst, passing through a landscape of hedgerows, copses and small pastures. The riding is relaxed and largely traffic-free, making it ideal for novice hackers. Back at the yard, facilities include a sand-based outdoor arena, a small car park and a warm welcome from the resident dogs. Cranleigh village, the largest village in England, is a five-minute drive away for post-ride refreshments.
