The Home of English Polo
Guards Polo Club is widely regarded as the most prestigious polo club in the United Kingdom. Located on Smith’s Lawn within the historic Windsor Great Park, it was founded in 1955 with the late Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, as its first president and has been at the centre of English polo ever since. The club operates ten polo pitches and hosts more than 500 matches each season, attracting the highest-rated players in the world.
The flagship tournaments are the Queen’s Cup (22-goal high-goal) and the Cartier International Day, which routinely draws crowds of over 30,000. These events combine top-level sport with fashion, hospitality and a quintessentially English summer atmosphere. For polo enthusiasts and newcomers alike, a day at Guards is one of Surrey’s most memorable sporting experiences.
Membership, Tuition & Spectating
Guards is a private members’ club, but spectators are welcome at most fixtures. General admission to standard match days is free, while the major tournaments operate ticketed enclosures with hospitality options. The club also runs a polo academy offering lessons to beginners and improvers, including stick-and-ball sessions, chukka practice and tournament preparation. Although the grounds technically sit within the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, the club is easily accessible from Weybridge, Egham and the Surrey commuter belt, and many of its members live in the surrounding area.
