Top-Class Flat & Jump Racing
Sandown Park is one of the finest racecourses in the south of England, occupying a compact, amphitheatre-like site in Esher. The course stages both flat and National Hunt racing at the highest level, and its two signature races – the Coral Eclipse (Group 1 flat, July) and the Tingle Creek Chase (Grade 1 jumps, December) – are highlights of the British racing calendar. The Eclipse, in particular, often brings together the best middle-distance horses in training for a thrilling mid-summer clash.
Sandown’s right-handed oval track, with its stiff uphill finish, produces exciting racing and frequent upsets. The jumps course features a renowned railway fence and downhill back straight that test horses’ jumping ability and bravery. Bet365 Gold Cup day in late April is another major fixture, combining competitive handicap chases with a festive spring atmosphere.
The Esher Venue
Beyond racing, Sandown Park operates as a conference and events venue, hosting exhibitions, concerts and community events throughout the year. The grandstand offers a range of dining and hospitality packages, and the Eclipse Bar and Grill provides a relaxed raceday option. The course is a short walk from Esher railway station (South Western Railway from London Waterloo) and has large car parks accessed from the A307. Its location makes it the home racecourse for residents of Cobham, Weybridge, Walton-on-Thames and the wider Elmbridge area.
