Year-Round Racing in East Surrey
Lingfield Park is a versatile racecourse on the Surrey–Sussex border near the village of Lingfield. It holds a unique position in British racing as one of only a handful of courses offering both turf and all-weather (Polytrack) surfaces, which allows it to stage meetings throughout the year regardless of weather conditions. The Polytrack circuit, installed in 2001, is a left-handed oval of about one mile and two furlongs, while the turf course offers both flat and National Hunt racing on separate tracks.
The course’s flagship event is the Lingfield Derby Trial in May, a recognised trial for The Derby at Epsom. Winter all-weather fixtures attract steady fields and provide valuable racing when many turf courses are dormant. Lingfield also hosts the Winter Million meeting in January, a lucrative all-weather card that has become a popular fixture on the racing calendar.
Facilities & Getting There
The racecourse has a modern grandstand with restaurants, bars and a viewing terrace overlooking the finishing straight. A Marriott hotel and spa adjoins the course, making it convenient for overnight stays combined with an evening meeting. Lingfield is served by its own railway station (Lingfield, on the Oxted line from London Bridge), and there is ample free car parking on site. From the Surrey commuter belt, Caterham and Oxted provide the nearest connections.
