College-Level Facilities Open to All
Merrist Wood Equestrian Centre is part of Merrist Wood College (Activate Learning) near Worplesdon, north of Guildford. While the college delivers equine studies courses up to degree level, the equestrian centre is also open to the public for riding lessons, clinics and competitions. The result is a facility whose standard of infrastructure far exceeds most private yards – riders benefit from the investment that an educational institution can sustain.
The centre offers group and private lessons for adults and children, with qualified instructors covering flatwork, jumping and cross-country. It is also a popular venue for Pony Club rallies and inter-schools competitions. Livery services are available, and the on-site farrier and equine therapy provision add practical convenience for horse owners.
Cross-Country & Competition Facilities
The centrepiece is a 90 × 30 m indoor arena with a galleried viewing area, complemented by several outdoor arenas and a purpose-built cross-country course with fences from introductory to intermediate level. Regular unaffiliated competitions and British Dressage and British Show Jumping affiliated events are held throughout the year, drawing competitors from across the south-east. The site sits off Holly Lane, Worplesdon with generous parking for lorries and trailers.
