A Vineyard for the Whole Family
Denbies Wine Estate in Dorking is the largest vineyard in England, covering 265 acres of south-facing chalk slopes in the Surrey Hills. While the estate is best known for its award-winning wines, it has developed into an excellent family destination with something for all ages. The popular vineyard train takes visitors on a narrated tour through the vines, and a woodland trail with information boards provides a gentle walk with views across the North Downs.
Inside the main building, children can explore the indoor play area while parents browse the wine shop or enjoy a tasting. The estate’s Gallery Restaurant and café serve meals using local produce, and there are picnic areas on the grounds. Seasonal events include Easter egg hunts, summer outdoor cinema screenings, a grape-picking experience in autumn and a Christmas market.
How to Visit
Denbies is on London Road (A24) in Dorking, within walking distance of Dorking station (both mainline and Deepdene). There is a large free car park. The estate is open daily year-round, with vineyard tours and train rides running on a timetabled basis — booking in advance is advisable, particularly at weekends. The location on the slopes of the North Downs makes it easy to combine with walks on Box Hill, just across the valley.
