Art, History & Discovery
The Lightbox is Woking’s award-winning gallery and museum, housed in a striking modern building on the banks of the Basingstoke Canal. Opened in 2007, it features two main gallery spaces hosting a rotating programme of exhibitions covering art, social history, photography and design. The Woking Story gallery tells the history of the town and surrounding area through interactive displays, while temporary exhibitions have featured everything from Turner Prize nominees to local archaeological finds.
For families, The Lightbox runs a strong programme of creative workshops, storytelling sessions and drop-in art activities, particularly during school holidays and at weekends. These are often free or very low cost. The canal-side setting is pleasant for a walk before or after a visit, and Woking town centre is just minutes away.
