Market on the Green
Ripley Farmers’ Market takes place on the attractive village green in Ripley, a historic village on the old Portsmouth Road between Guildford and Woking. Held on the second Saturday of each month, the market typically features over 35 regular stalls selling a range of produce grown or made within a defined radius of the village. Regulars include a free-range egg producer, a raw-milk cheese maker, a baker specialising in sourdough and a butcher selling rare-breed pork. The setting is one of the market’s greatest assets – Ripley Green is one of the largest in Surrey, lined with period cottages and overlooked by the village cricket ground.
A Community Tradition
The market has been running for well over a decade and has become a fixture of the local calendar. Visitors come not just from Ripley but from Send, Ockham, Cobham and further afield, and many combine the trip with lunch at one of Ripley’s well-known restaurants or a walk along the towpath of the nearby Wey Navigation. The atmosphere is relaxed and sociable, with stallholders happy to discuss their produce, offer tasting samples and share recipes. For anyone seeking an alternative to supermarket shopping, Ripley Farmers’ Market is one of the most enjoyable in the county.
