Rock and Roll on the Village Green

The Parrot Inn has stood on the east side of Forest Green for at least 400 years. In 1712, an agreement was signed between John Evelyn of Wotton and Walter Miall of Abinger for “a cottage and one rood on Farlyes Green.” In the 1970s, Gary Brooker, lead singer of Procol Harum and the voice behind “A Whiter Shade of Pale,” purchased and ran the pub, adding rock-and-roll history to this deep Surrey village. Brunning & Price acquired the lease in 2018 and undertook a complete sympathetic refurbishment.

Cricket, Ales, and Country Cooking

The Parrot overlooks the village green and cricket ground, the highest in south-east England. In summer, leather on willow drifts across while you sit with a pint of Tillingbourne ale. The daily-changing menu features freshly prepared British dishes with local seasonal sourcing. Cask ales include Tillingbourne, Firebird, and Dorking breweries. Deep in the Surrey Hills near Leith Hill, this is a pub that rewards a proper expedition.
