A Pub of Two Identities
The Percy Arms sits on the Dorking Road in Chilworth, beneath St Martha’s Hill on the North Downs Way. The surrounding area has deep industrial history: Chilworth’s gunpowder mills operated for three centuries. Owners Deborah and Todd, originally from South Africa, have run the pub for eighteen years, introducing a distinctive colonial theme. Authentic Africana artefacts shipped from Southern Africa sit alongside tartans, weaves, and leathers to create the atmosphere of a hunting lodge.
Steaks and Surrey Hills
From outside, it’s the quintessential English village pub. Step inside and you enter an elegant grillhouse where the quality of the meat and skill of the grill are taken seriously. Beyond signature steaks, the menu encompasses fresh fish, poultry, game, and vegetarian dishes. Five luxurious rooms offer overnight accommodation. Its position beneath St Martha’s Hill makes it ideal for walkers on the North Downs Way.
