Five Centuries on Cranleigh High Street
The Richard Onslow is the oldest of Cranleigh’s pubs, dating from the 16th century. It was known as “The Six Bells” (after the parish church bells) and briefly as the “Flower-de-Luce.” In 1801, it became “The Onslow Arms” when King George III honoured George Onslow with the Earldom of Onslow. Renamed “The Richard Onslow” in 2009 after Sir Richard Onslow, Speaker of the House of Commons. Four distinct phases of construction spanning five centuries create a layout of interconnected rooms, each with its own character.
