Champagne Terroir in Surrey

Established in 1989, Greyfriars was one of the earliest English vineyards to plant traditional Champagne varieties. In 2011, Mike and Hilary Wagstaff acquired and expanded it to almost 50 acres across three sites, investing in a state-of-the-art winery with an underground chalk cave cellar, a nod to Champagne’s traditional cellaring. The chalky limestone subsoil is identical to Champagne’s terroir, and the natural shelter of the North Downs ridge extends the growing season.

Awards and Visiting

The Cuvée, Blanc de Blancs, and Rosé have won at the Decanter World Wine Awards and two golds at the WineGB Awards 2022. The underground cave maintains constant temperature and humidity for slow maturation. Guided tours run Saturdays from late April through early September, with the cellar door shop open Tuesday to Saturday.
