Polo in the Surrey Hills

Hurtwood Polo Club is one of England’s leading polo venues, set in the beautiful wooded landscape of the Hurtwood between Ewhurst and Cranleigh. The club hosts high-goal, medium-goal and low-goal tournaments throughout the season, which runs from late April to mid-September. Its grounds feature immaculately maintained turf pitches framed by the oak and beech woodlands of the Surrey Hills AONB.

Founded in the 1990s, Hurtwood has grown rapidly to become a fixture on the English polo calendar. The club attracts top-level players from Argentina, the UK and beyond, and its tournaments draw knowledgeable spectators and corporate hospitality guests in equal measure. Matches are typically played on weekend afternoons, and the atmosphere combines sporting intensity with a relaxed, countryside setting.

Tuition & Getting Involved

Hurtwood is not exclusively for experienced players. The club offers polo lessons and taster sessions for beginners, providing instruction on stick-and-ball technique, riding skills specific to polo and the rules of the game. Introductory packages typically include a mount, equipment and coaching from a professional player. For those who catch the bug, the club operates academy and low-goal programmes that allow newcomers to progress towards competitive chukkas. Spectators are welcome on match days, and entry to most fixtures is free.
