Heathland Smallholding
Alder Carr Farm occupies a small patch of countryside on the fringes of Frensham Common, one of Surrey’s most atmospheric heathland landscapes. The farm is run as a traditional smallholding, with pigs, chickens and a kitchen garden providing the core of what is sold in the on-site shop. Home-reared pork, sold as joints, chops, sausages and bacon, is the main draw, and the free-range eggs are popular with walkers and dog-owners returning from the common. Seasonal vegetables are grown without chemicals, and the range expands significantly during the summer months.
Homemade & Handmade
In addition to fresh produce, Alder Carr sells a range of homemade preserves, chutneys and pickles, all made in small batches using fruit and vegetables from the farm. The operation is deliberately small-scale, and the owners have no ambition to compete with the larger farm shops in the county. Instead, they offer something increasingly rare: produce from a genuinely working smallholding, sold directly to customers with no intermediary. For anyone exploring the Farnham heathlands, Frensham Great Pond, the Devil’s Jumps, Thursley Common, a stop at Alder Carr is a rewarding detour.
