An Extraordinary Estate
Wotton House is a remarkable 17th-century country estate set within 13 acres of grounds at the foot of the Surrey Hills near Dorking. The house was once home to the diarist John Evelyn, and his passion for landscape design is still evident in the extraordinary gardens, which feature a Roman Temple, Italianate terraces, a grotto and ornamental waterways. The estate’s distinctive character makes it one of the most visually striking wedding venues in the south of England.
The house itself has been sympathetically extended and now operates as a hotel and events venue. Original features including oak panelling, stone fireplaces and period plasterwork sit alongside comfortable modern amenities throughout the property.
Celebrations at Wotton
Weddings at Wotton House can take place in a variety of spaces. The Old Library, with its book-lined walls and open fireplace, is licensed for intimate ceremonies of up to 60 guests. For larger celebrations, the Garden Room opens onto the Italianate terrace and accommodates up to 200 guests. The most memorable option is an outdoor ceremony at the Roman Temple, set beside a still lake — an unforgettable setting on a summer’s day.
As a hotel, Wotton House offers the convenience of on-site accommodation, with bedrooms available for the wedding party and guests. The in-house catering team produces seasonal menus, and the grounds provide seemingly endless opportunities for photographs throughout the day.
